Wanderer and alpaca farm volunteer in Chile

My name is Kamila, and if you are reading this, you probably find it just as hard to sit still as I do. In 2019, I quit my office job in Prague, packed a single 40-liter backpack, and bought a one-way ticket to Santiago. No return flight. No plan beyond three weeks out. I simply realized I could not keep putting my life on hold.

Chile turned my world upside down. A month after I arrived, I found a small farm in Patagonia where they raised alpacas, and I stayed on as a volunteer for four months. Every morning I was up at six, feeding the animals, mending fences, and cooking meals with the host family. The internet worked for two hours a day. It was the best thing that had ever happened to me.
Alpacas spit, by the way. The tourist brochures never mention that.

Since then I have traveled through more than twenty countries. I visited the Uyuni Salt Flat during rainy season, when the sky reflects in the water and you lose all sense of up and down. I spent the night in a Berber home in Morocco. I rode a train all the way across Central Asia with a suitcase bursting at the seams from all the spices I had bought. Every trip was different. Every trip changed something in me.

On this site, I write honestly. No polished photos stripped of context, and no advice that only works on a blogger's budget. You will find routes I have covered myself. Mistakes I made so you do not have to. Prices, addresses, and real impressions. Sometimes frightening. Sometimes funny. Always genuine.

Right now I am on the road again. Write to me if you have a specific question, or simply if you need a small push to finally make up your mind and go. I will always write back. Because three years ago, I really needed someone who would just say: yes, go, it will all work out.
